As reported in a previous post, a well-known name is facing felony DUI charges in Lake County, Illinois. The man's name is Michael P. Ditka, but he is not the Mike Ditka that once coached the Chicago Bears; he is his son.
The 49-year-old was arrested in April when he was found in a vehicle parked outside of his apartment. He was charged with DUI, though he said he was not driving the vehicle, he was just sitting in it. Ditka pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against him. He believes that police are biased against him because of his well-known father.
After Ditka posted bail in April, he was given a required curfew. According to the Chicago Tribune, he was not allowed to be out of his home between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. but, according to legal officials, he was out during those hours on three separate occasions. A prosecutor asked the court to order Ditka to jail for his curfew violations, but a judge denied the prosecutor's request.
